Bahn Mi, Bahn You, Baby

bbq pork bahn mi ($2.50) – so cheap!

What’s my favorite sandwich of all time, you ask (or didn’t)? The Bahn Mi. The sandwich staple of Vietnam is all about a crusty French baguette filled with meats and pickled vegetables. Asian-style BBQ pork, pate, cilantro, cucumbers, jalapenos — there are lots of things in bahn mis. All of them are wonderful.

Quoc Huong (5150 Buford Hwy. C-170) makes the best in Atlanta as far as I can tell. The bahn mi (bbq pork is my favorite) will arrive at your table faster than it took to order it. It’s a hefty sandwich for $2.50 and while you’re at it, egg rolls (spring rolls, really) make a great accompaniment. Crispy and light. FRIED.

Everybody goes home happy.

Caveat: they ONLY accept cash. The last time I went, I was short $5. I feared they would make me marry their oldest daughter to make amends, but thankfully they let my friend drive down the street to the ATM. Phew.
