Culinaring in N’awlins: Cafe Beignet

hot and fresh beignets
When the entire family wakes up before 1pm, something is afoot. When the entire family wakes up before 10pm, something is really afoot. The first thing my mom said to me this morning: “Did you pickup any beignets?”
Perhaps for the first time in a decade, the entire family woke up early and walked two miles around the city. Understand that the only thing active about us are our active appetites. With the promise of beignets, we explored the city with our three rottweilers in tow.
Just as every tourist who visits this city knows, Cafe Du Monde is synonymous with New Orleans, but on this trip, we singled-out Cafe Beignet after Alton Brown on The Best Thing I Ever Ate declared these sugary delights the best in the city. So. Were they better? I don’t know and may never know. These were HOTTER and flatter than the beignets I remember from Du Monde, but considering how the line for Du Monde goes on forever and ever, I don’t think I’ll be waiting hours for beignets tomorrow morning. I enjoy beignets but not that much.
What I can say is that Cafe Beignet isn’t neraly as busy (read touristy) but still very enjoyable.
